Enter a wedding date to see elapsed calendar time, the next anniversary and gift themes for that anniversary number. A completed anniversary falling on the reference date is included, with zero days remaining. Otherwise the calculator looks ahead to the following anniversary. The wedding day itself starts at year zero.

Use the date result alongside our couples gift guide. If the couple already owns the obvious things, gifts for couples who have everything offers a different starting point. A theme can be one detail in a gift; it does not need to determine the whole purchase.

Set a wedding date and reference date

Both inputs use YYYY-MM-DD, with two digits for the month and day and a year between 1900 and 2200. Leave the reference date empty for today's UTC date. Supply one when you want to reproduce an example or see what the result would be on a particular day.

The wedding must be on or before the reference date. Impossible dates, incomplete dates and out-of-range years require correction. The calculator clears its results while an input is invalid, so a previously valid result is not presented as the answer to a mistyped date.

UTC can differ from your local calendar date near midnight. The calculation uses whole calendar dates, without the ceremony's hour or location. If you are checking an anniversary while traveling, enter the local date you intend to use as the reference.

Read elapsed time and the next anniversary

Completed months are measured directly from the original wedding date. The total is divided into whole years and remaining months, then the leftover days are counted. Each offset keeps the original day number where possible. If that day is absent, the destination month's last day is used.

For example, January 31 to March 30, 2025 is one whole month and thirty days. March 31 completes two months. The February adjustment does not permanently move later anniversaries to the twenty-eighth. February 29 weddings use February 28 in non-leap years and February 29 in leap years.

The gift year belongs to the anniversary displayed in the results. On the twenty-fifth anniversary it is twenty-five, with zero days remaining; the following day it becomes twenty-six. The elapsed-time fields and gift-year field therefore answer different questions and need not show the same year number.

Know which gift lists are used

Traditional materials and flower associations follow the tables in Wikipedia's wedding anniversary reference. Most listed materials use its US column. The sixty-fifth and seventieth entries come from the UK column and carry a UK label in the result. These are cultural conventions, not universal requirements.

The separate jewelry field follows GIA's published suggestions for years one through ten, eleven through twenty and later milestones. GIA describes its list as a selection rather than a single authoritative standard. It includes metals and watches as well as gemstones, which is why the field says “jewelry theme.”

“Not listed” means that this calculator has no entry in that category for that year. It does not mean the year lacks an anniversary, or that no other tradition offers a theme. Missing values are not replaced with a neighboring year's gift. Historical material names can inspire a color or motif instead of requiring the actual material.

Check the examples before planning

With September 11, 2026 as the reference date, a June 20, 2015 wedding gives eleven years, two months and twenty-two days elapsed. The next anniversary is Sunday, June 20, 2027, 282 days away. Its traditional theme is silk; GIA's jewelry suggestion for that twelfth year is jade.

A September 15, 2001 wedding gives twenty-four years, eleven months and twenty-seven days. The silver anniversary falls Tuesday, September 15, 2026, four days away. A November 2, 2024 wedding instead gives one year, ten months and nine days, with the second anniversary 52 days away on Monday, November 2, 2026.

Confirm the date with the couple before arranging a surprise or engraving an item. The calculator establishes neither a spending target nor a delivery promise. Their tastes, existing belongings and plans still decide what makes a useful anniversary gift.

FAQ

Common questions

Which gift lists does this use?

The traditional material and flower tables follow Wikipedia’s wedding anniversary reference. Materials use its US column except years 65 and 70, labeled UK. The separate jewelry field uses GIA’s published selections, which include metals and watches as well as gems.

What does Not listed mean?

This calculator has no entry in that category for the displayed year. It does not substitute a neighboring year or imply that no other tradition has a theme.

How does it handle February 29?

Anniversaries use February 28 in non-leap years and February 29 in leap years. This is the calculator’s calendar convention; you can celebrate on another date.
